A Bit About Delaina

Hi, I’m Delaina and I love to paint and create.  I grew up in a large family on Sand Mountain in north Alabama. I am number five of six children.  As one might imagine my childhood was never dull. Being outside with the animals, (dogs, cats, cows and horses), drawing and snapping photographs were my favorite pastimes.

I studied at Auburn University where I received a B.A. degree in Journalism and a B.S. degree in Nutrition & Foods. While having positions in the foods industry, a restaurant owner, retail management and my most important roles of wife and mother, I casually continued to practice art.

When my children were grown and I was considering my next turn, I was inspired by my niece to paint a tiger portrait for her dorm room. I’ve been dipping my brushes in the paint since, and loving every minute of it.

I reside in Vestavia Hills, Alabama.  My paintings are representational pieces, primarily in acrylics. It is satisfying how quickly layers can be applied with acrylics and that chemicals are not needed for cleanup.  John Singer Sargent, Peder Mork Monsted, Albert Bierstadt, John Constable, Mary Josephine Walters, Robert Bateman and Andrew Tischler are special influences.

Thank you for stopping by.  I welcome you to look around and come again for updates.
